Instructional Skills Workshop - 2400 Series
The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is a laboratory approach to the development and improvement of teaching (training) and learning. We use the actual experiences of the participants. Participants review basic ideas about teaching (training), check current practices, and try new strategies and techniques within the safe environment of the workshop. This is a four day workshop.
Goals and Learning Outcomes
Upon the successful completion of this workshop participants will be able to:
- understand and prepare useful, practical lesson (training) plans.
- use these plans to effectively deliver a lesson full of learning opportunities.
- Participants will:
- conduct highly participatory classroom (training room) sessions
- use instructional objectives to inform learners about what they are expected to learn
- use instructional aids
- use good questioning techniques
- evaluate what has been learned in relation to the performance objectives
- understand adult learners
- understand types of instruction deliveries
- be able to able to develop a course plan
- understand and use human relations in the classroom
- understand characteristics of listening behaviour
Course Outline
Day 1:
- Theories of successful instructional methods.
- Development of mini lesson plans.
Day 2:
- First mini lessons and reviews
Day 3:
- Second mini lessons and reviews
- Development of new techniques and methods
Day 4:
- Third mini lessons and reviews
- Summary and plans to putting theories into action
